From the 1st April, 2009, the "Gas Safe Register" replaced the CORGI Register for Gas Engineers, and it is now a requirement that all gas safe registered engineers now carry additional commercial gas qualifications for the installation, repair, service and maintenance of equipment in commercial premises where gas pipes, cookers, boilers, heaters, meters and other appliances are operated.

It is a criminal offence to appoint an engineer who has not got the CODNCO1 qualification. You can check this by calling the Gas Safe Register prior to any commencing work in order to verify the registration of the particular engineer.

Any domestic gas engineers who do not hold the correct qualification are breaking the law by carrying out commercial work. Our engineers have been verified by us, and will not be offended if they are asked for further verification with the Gas Safe Register certification when they arrive.

Works that are deemed to be commercial and must be worked on by a commercial qualified gas safe registered engineer include the following:

• Gas installations with a volume of 0.035 cubic meters or more
• Any gas pipe which is larger than 35 mm in diameter
• Any gas boiler or appliance that has a production capacity output of more than 70kw
• All premises containing commercial equipment (including all commercial kitchens, restaurants, takeaways, schools and hospitals), and where the most common or shared heated buildings.
